Mostly error.Meganhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05879022843770498767noreply@blogger.comBlogger203125tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6579865805572494744.post-91861773101112035622015-02-20T03:31:00.002-05:002015-02-20T03:31:55.585-05:00Quilting ADDSo grad school is hard.<br />
<br />
Not only have I not blogged since NOVEMBER, I haven't even stepped into my sewing room since the first week of January.<br />
<br />
Until tonight! Thank goodness for snow, right? Lol, not really. My class was cancelled today, and I managed to take an exam NOT at the last minute, so I rewarded myself.<br />
<br />
I actually have two finished tops to show you (one was the Kate Spain one from the last post), but those will have to wait until daytime when I can take pictures.<br />
<br />
But here is what my design wall has looked like for the last two months-ish - full on quilting ADD. I can't even count the WIPS I've got going on, and part of the problem is that I just don't care enough about any one project enough to get any real work done on it. Isn't that sad?<br />
<br />
Well, only 15 months until I'm finished with school, so maybe I'll finish one between now and then?<br />
<br />

I finished it last week sometime (or maybe even the week before??) but as I've been working day shift lately, it's dark when I get up to go to work and it's dark when I come home, so alas, no pictures yet. Soon, though!<br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
One of the steps of this quilt involve ending a column of piecing with a triangle, which becomes the corner of the block. (Here is a reference for the finished block, in case you've forgotten. Which I wouldn't blame you for...)<br />
<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/talesofineptitude/15381878905" title="Sunnyside by Megan, on Flickr"><img alt="Sunnyside" height="640" src="https://farm3.staticflickr.com/2948/15381878905_8a04795de8_z.jpg" width="459" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
There are lots of different ways to make sure your triangles end up centered, but here is how I do it:<br />
<br />
Fold it in half lengthwise and finger press...</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/talesofineptitude/15561415482" title="Untitled by Megan, on Flickr"><img alt="Untitled" height="640" src="https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3933/15561415482_fefc7473df_z.jpg" width="480" /></a></div>
</div>
<div>
<br />
<br />
Line up the point of the triangle with the press line...<br />
<br /></div>
<div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/talesofineptitude/14940409673" title="Untitled by Megan, on Flickr"><img alt="Untitled" height="480" src="https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3932/14940409673_c6b4f8703a_z.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: left;">
Chain piece the crap out of that ish...</div>
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/talesofineptitude/15557906631" title="Untitled by Megan, on Flickr"><img alt="Untitled" height="480" src="https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3944/15557906631_0242167f88_z.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: left;">
Hey look! You're done! So pretty and symmetrical! Makes it so much easier to square up these blocks!</div>
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/talesofineptitude/15560584235" title="Untitled by Megan, on Flickr"><img alt="Untitled" height="640" src="https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3928/15560584235_9548007529_z.jpg" width="504" /></a><br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: left;">
Hopefully I'll have a change to photograph this quilt over the weekend. Maybe I'll baste it too?? Let's not get ahead of ourselves...</div>
</div>

Meganhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05879022843770498767noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6579865805572494744.post-7264105611321192672014-11-07T09:40:00.002-05:002014-11-07T09:41:09.461-05:00I finished something!I actually have a finish for Finish-it-up Friday! I really have a couple things to show you, but this one is actually done AND photographed!<br />
<br />
I made a pillow top out of mini charms aaaaaaages ago, and it sat on my design wall forever while I contemplated how to quilt it. Like ages.<br />
<br />
I found this picture of it's early stages on my Flickr. Taken in MARCH. Don't judge...<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/talesofineptitude/12943212315" title="Untitled by Megan, on Flickr"><img alt="Untitled" height="498" src="https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3791/12943212315_78cc1d1187_z.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
So it sat, and sat, and sat... and then divine inspiration came in the form of a blog post from Christina at <a href="http://afewscraps.blogspot.com/2014/10/the-fmq-weekly-wibbly-wobbly-free.html" target="_blank">A Few Scraps</a>. She actually has a book out that is ah-may-zing, so you should get it. And she has no idea that I even exist, much less rave about her book, so you can trust my honesty!<br />
<br />
So I saw that post, liked the design, and just sat at my machine and went to town. I didn't draw it out beforehand (maybe I should have!) but I think it turned out ok anyway. I have to say, when inspiration strikes, I don't have any patience!<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/talesofineptitude/15546779477" title="Untitled by Megan, on Flickr"><img alt="Untitled" height="640" src="https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7487/15546779477_f9a178a8c5_z.jpg" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
I even managed to quilt it and make it into a Real Pillow on the same day! I know, right??<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/talesofineptitude/15546514538" title="Untitled by Megan, on Flickr"><img alt="Untitled" height="640" src="https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3951/15546514538_79a7d2da38_z.jpg" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Doesn't she look so pretty next to her friend? Charlotte approves, though I don't have photographic proof.<br />
<br />
I even started a little something else the other day, that I'm super stoked about. I've just hit a snag until more background fabric comes in the mail!<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/talesofineptitude/15547121630" title="Untitled by Megan, on Flickr"><img alt="Untitled" height="480" src="https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3955/15547121630_5f87b519ac_z.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
Meganhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05879022843770498767noreply@blogger.com8tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6579865805572494744.post-70908028987465290402014-11-06T11:01:00.000-05:002014-11-06T11:01:19.486-05:00Socktober!Here's a little knitting update for you, in honor of the end of Socktober! (a little late...)<br />
<br />
I finished these purple lovelies, and as soon as they were done I put them on and now they're waiting to go in the wash. So you've have to forgive me for using an old photo...<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/talesofineptitude/15278511545" title="Untitled by Megan, on Flickr"><img alt="Untitled" height="640" src="https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5586/15278511545_ce82bf2a35_z.jpg" width="480" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<br />
The dye lots were also REALLY off. The labels said they were the same, but the blues are VERY different!<br />
<br />
I also started these! I've been referring to them (it?) as the green monsters. I'm doing a seed stitch rib pattern, and I actually tried starting two at a time, but it stressed me out, and since this is supposed to be FUN, I pulled one off and I'm just working on one at a time. I'm totally ok with that. Maybe I'm just not meant to be a two-at-a-timer!<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/talesofineptitude/15373965779" title="Untitled by Megan, on Flickr"><img alt="Untitled" height="480" src="https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3935/15373965779_85519c3f07_z.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<br />
I'm also making really good progress (so far!) on my Color Affection. I'm a few repeats into the second contrast color, but I have to tell you, I've literally fallen asleep while knitting this TWICE. Hundreds of plain knit stitches at once is apparently like Ambien to me. I'm super stoked about getting this done this season, but I'm glad I started another pair of socks, to break up the monotony!<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/talesofineptitude/15557907421" title=" by Megan, on Flickr"><img alt=" " height="480" src="https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5615/15557907421_4abac1d984_z.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
Meganhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05879022843770498767noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6579865805572494744.post-38257974002000593152014-10-10T04:13:00.002-04:002014-10-10T04:14:19.769-04:00Officewarming!I made a quick gift for a good friend the other day. She recently started a new fancy job, and has an office with a really great view and everything - so I made her a little something as an "officewarming" gift.<br />
<br />
I used a mini charm pack of Horizon by <a href="http://katespaindesigns.blogspot.com/" target="_blank">Kate Spain</a> and <a href="http://talesofineptitude.blogspot.com/2014/03/jagged-little-pill.html" target="_blank">revisited my mini Rock Candy Quilt</a> by <a href="http://www.jaybirdquilts.com/" target="_blank">Jaybird Quilts</a>. It didn't take long at all to put this together, I feel like the longest part was deciding on how to lay out the pieces!<br />
<br />
I first looked at a random-ish layout...<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/talesofineptitude/15307337697" title="Horizon Rock Candy by Megan, on Flickr"><img alt="Horizon Rock Candy" height="400" src="https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3948/15307337697_1561fd4aa2_z.jpg" width="355" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<br />
Then I used the more saturated fabrics for the inner bit and radiated out....<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/talesofineptitude/15307336847" title="Horizon Rock Candy by Megan, on Flickr"><img alt="Horizon Rock Candy" height="400" src="https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3951/15307336847_21d930df1b_z.jpg" width="345" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<br />
Then I did the opposite of that...<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/talesofineptitude/15307006659" title="Horizon Rock Candy by Megan, on Flickr"><img alt="Horizon Rock Candy" height="400" src="https://farm3.staticflickr.com/2949/15307006659_904320d5f6_z.jpg" width="339" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<br />
And we have a winner!<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/talesofineptitude/15493913125" title="Horizon Rock Candy by Megan, on Flickr"><img alt="Horizon Rock Candy" height="400" src="https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3948/15493913125_0de9172108_z.jpg" width="359" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<br />
And here is the finished product!<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/talesofineptitude/15493913085" title="Horizon Rock Candy by Megan, on Flickr"><img alt="Horizon Rock Candy" height="640" src="https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5610/15493913085_01dae15464_z.jpg" width="480" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<br />
I quilted it with straight lines overlapping in the center with Aurifil 3840, a really pretty variegated purple. I machine stitched the binding and it was done!Meganhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05879022843770498767noreply@blogger.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6579865805572494744.post-90827811354590396232014-10-02T22:24:00.001-04:002014-10-02T22:24:41.469-04:00Build Me Up ButtercupI have a finish! Whaaaat!!<br />
<br />
Yeah, I know, I can't believe it either! I actually finished this quilt last week (maybe the week before? I just finished midterms, my brain is broken...) and I took some pictures of it right away, before I lost the light and/or the top got wrinkled.<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/talesofineptitude/15237952547" title="Build Me Up Buttercup by Megan, on Flickr"><img alt="Build Me Up Buttercup" height="480" src="https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3933/15237952547_c4b48d9378_z.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/talesofineptitude/15401449766" title="Build Me Up Buttercup by Megan, on Flickr"><img alt="Build Me Up Buttercup" height="480" src="https://farm3.staticflickr.com/2945/15401449766_bd5f0e4a76_z.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/talesofineptitude/15424495365" title="Build Me Up Buttercup by Megan, on Flickr"><img alt="Build Me Up Buttercup" height="497" src="https://farm3.staticflickr.com/2941/15424495365_13445972bb_z.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
I started this quilt intending it to be a nap-sized couch quilt (~60" square) but after it got to that size, I decided I liked it too much and wanted to make it bed-sized. It's a little small for my queen sized bed, but I have a few inches of overhang on each side so it's passable.<br />
<br />
You can see where I planned out additional blocks after I finished the quilt top the first time... I also cut the fabric to preserve the directionality, which is a really nice effect with these beautiful prints!<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/talesofineptitude/15237903778" title="Build Me Up Buttercup by Megan, on Flickr"><img alt="Build Me Up Buttercup" height="480" src="https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3928/15237903778_d8f43f72f6_z.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
This was a fun one. Super fast, instant gratification blocks. I've already started on the back, so once I figure out how I want to quilt it I'll finish the back, baste it, and get going!<br />
<br />

<div style="text-align: left;">
So apparently I can't finish one thing before starting another... I've had a plan for my FQ stack of Sunnyside for aaaaages... I just haven't had a chance to work on it! But since working on my Meadow quilt (which is finished - more on that later this week!) I've gotten a fire lit under me for piecing. So I decided to make a "sample" block... which turned into 6, which turned into cutting out the whole quilt. And I've even gotten the backing already! (I am SO BAD about making tops and then procrastinating on the backs forever!)</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">

<br />
So here is what I have so far - I'm using Tula Pink's Treasure Hunt pattern, which she released for Acacia.<br />

<div style="text-align: left;">
I'm still working on this pretty steadily, so I'm sure I'll have some more to share soon!</div>

I started knitting last fall, and I think I've made some progress, but there is still a long way to go before I would consider myself proficient...<br />
<br />
My <a href="http://talesofineptitude.blogspot.com/2014/01/the-one-where-power-went-out.html" target="_blank">first pair of socks</a> was a worsted-weight "learning" pair that turned out ok, and I've since finished another pair!<br />
<br />
These are <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/hermiones-everyday-socks" target="_blank">Hermione's Everyday Socks</a> in some Joann's yarn. I did these cuff down with a fish-lips kiss heel. I really liked these, but I had to frog the first sock because it was waaaay too small for my size 10 feet! I restarted them on slightly larger needles, with a slightly higher stitch count, and they turned out pretty well! I would consider them a tiiiiny bit too big, but they fit really well just after they're washed.<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/talesofineptitude/15091815730" title="Untitled by Megan, on Flickr"><img alt="Untitled" height="640" src="https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3857/15091815730_e0e6ed7bc9_z.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
I actually finished these a while ago (much like the pillow...) but never blogged about them. I've almost finished another pair since! These are not quite finished, I have like 5 rows left of the cuff on the second sock. These are my first toe-ups and I LOVE how that worked! I didn't have to worry about running out of yarn at the toe! I just did vanilla stockinette, pleasantly mindless for tv watching, etc. These socks are from the same dye lot but the blues look VERY different. The yarn was another cheap Joann's purchase, so I'm not terribly upset.<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/talesofineptitude/15278511545" title="Untitled by Megan, on Flickr"><img alt="Untitled" height="640" src="https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5586/15278511545_ce82bf2a35_z.jpg" width="480" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
I also bought some "good" yarn for a <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/color-affection" target="_blank">Color Affection</a> shawl! I'm very excited about this! I started it the other night (since the other socks are almost done and I want something on needles at all times!) and looked at some of the mods people made on <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/people/talesofineptitude" target="_blank">Ravelry</a>. I'm doing KFBs instead of the M1s, and I'm adding yarn overs to the right side rows.<br />
<br />
I've already had to frog it once, since my dropped YOs left big holes, (you can see them here, this picture is the first attempt) but I've started it again putting the YO between knit stitches instead of between a knit and KFB. It's looking better already!<br />

<br />
I'll keep you posted as to how this goes, I've never done colorwork before, and I'm excited about it!Meganhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05879022843770498767noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6579865805572494744.post-62990308259624423022014-09-15T18:53:00.000-04:002014-09-15T18:53:58.735-04:00Forgotten Finish!You might not even remember when I <a href="http://talesofineptitude.blogspot.com/2013/06/you-may-have-noticed-that-ive-been-mia.html" target="_blank">started this project</a>... last summer!<br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/talesofineptitude/9098458046" title="Jumped right on some vacation sewing late last night thanks to a quick last minute trip to @quiltrva yesterday to grab some @paperpiecesepp ☺ by Megan, on Flickr"><img alt="Jumped right on some vacation sewing late last night thanks to a quick last minute trip to @quiltrva yesterday to grab some @paperpiecesepp ☺" height="612" src="https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7455/9098458046_08ac29010f_z.jpg" width="612" /></a></div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I love hand work, and this was no exception. I remember distinctly working on this while my grandmother was in the hospital last year, just before she passed away. Maybe that's why I put it away for so long?</div>
<div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/talesofineptitude/9252428461" title="Untitled by Megan, on Flickr"><img alt="Untitled" height="480" src="https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7336/9252428461_69bcc0d481_z.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
I even had a moment of ineptitude where I wasn't paying attention - don't try to hand piece and watch Scandal! At least it was an easy fix.<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/talesofineptitude/10653536756" title="So this is what happens when you try to sew and watch scandal at the same time... <br />
<br /></div>
<div>
But anyway, I actually finished this several months ago, and neglected to share it with you. But here it is!<br />
<br />
I quilted it with straight lines radiating out from the peach ring, with Aurifil 2600 (my go-to for everything!) The back is a simple pocket with navy Pearl Bracelets.<br />
<br />

<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/talesofineptitude/14757755990" title="Untitled by Megan, on Flickr"><img alt="Untitled" height="480" src="https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5581/14757755990_f01359fdbf_z.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<br />
I really love Meadow by Leah Duncan. I made enough blocks for a little quilt. (I'm also actually hoarding a half-yard bundle of Tule, just waiting for the right moment...)<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/talesofineptitude/14993337357" title="Untitled by Megan, on Flickr"><img alt="Untitled" height="480" src="https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3865/14993337357_8fbd299508_z.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
I liked it so much, in fact, that I decided to make more blocks.<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/talesofineptitude/15176886611" title="Untitled by Megan, on Flickr"><img alt="Untitled" height="480" src="https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3836/15176886611_60c1923c87_z.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Then I decided I wanted to put it on my bed, so I made even more.<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/talesofineptitude/15179524512" title="Untitled by Megan, on Flickr"><img alt="Untitled" height="480" src="https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3908/15179524512_799dd862f9_z.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
These blocks are done now, so I just have to put them together and finish the top!Meganhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05879022843770498767noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6579865805572494744.post-86501054053582334392014-08-17T06:02:00.001-04:002014-08-17T06:03:05.975-04:00I made something!<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">

Do me a favor and reach back into your Ancient History archives and <a href="http://talesofineptitude.blogspot.com/2014/04/wip-wednesday.html" target="_blank">recall this pull</a>:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/talesofineptitude/13586056553" title="Untitled by Megan, on Flickr"><img alt="Untitled" height="506" src="https://farm3.staticflickr.com/2936/13586056553_9b5db382b3_z.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Yeah. That sat on my sewing table for aaaaaages. Once the semester (or two...) got out and I had more than one day off, I finally cut into it. You might remember this from the other day:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/talesofineptitude/14757755990" title="Untitled by Megan, on Flickr"><img alt="Untitled" height="480" src="https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5581/14757755990_f01359fdbf_z.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br />
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Well after finally playing with that fabric, I put it all together and quilted it with NOT gray(!!)...</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/talesofineptitude/14757805858" title="Untitled by Megan, on Flickr"><img alt="Untitled" height="480" src="https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3913/14757805858_1310d91403_z.jpg" width="640" /></a><br />
<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: left;">
It became this!! Since I got my drop-in sewing table in late February, I've still been using the cover that came with the machine. But since the machine is recessed now, the old cover is way too big. So I upgraded Bridget's duds!</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/talesofineptitude/14757805228" title="Untitled by Megan, on Flickr"><img alt="Untitled" height="428" src="https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5593/14757805228_27ed45fc7b_c.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
I quilted it with blue and yellow variegated Aurifil and the fabrics are some of my Very Favorites, so I'm super stoked to be able to look at this every day instead of the plain boring old one. Yay!</div>

<span style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue Light', HelveticaNeue-Light, helvetica, arial, sans-serif;">So I definitely haven't been sewing much this spring/summer. I've been in school, and in the process of finding a new job, and what sewing I HAVE been doing is a gift, so it hasn't seen the light of blog (or Instagram! But the other day I turned on the machine for the first time in a couple weeks, and in manic sewing mode, started two projects in the same evening. So now my wall is looking very pretty and colorful again!</span><br />

At about the same time, <a href="http://www.genxquilters.com/" target="_blank">Anne Marie</a> posted on <a href="http://instagram.com/talesofineptitude" target="_blank">Instagram</a> that she was looking for some pattern testers for a new napkin pattern. Good timing, huh??<br />
<br />
So here is what I came up with. She released <a href="http://genxquilters.bigcartel.com/product/patchwork-napkins" target="_blank">the pattern</a> Monday, and it is on sale all week!<br />
<br />
I used scraps for the piecing, and Kona Silver for the gray. All of the backing fabrics are different confetti dots colors. Since I used scraps, I didn't prewash these, but that would be best since they will get a lot of use! I think I might make four more to round out the set!<br />

<br />
My wall of future pillows... I've quilted that middle one already so I'll post on that soon... (also my #honestcraftroom lol)<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/talesofineptitude/13586373134" title="Untitled by Megan, on Flickr"><img alt="Untitled" height="500" src="https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3816/13586373134_ba3af125e3.jpg" width="402" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
A fun secret project for a bloggy friend... This is actually finished already, but I can't post about it until she says so!<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/talesofineptitude/13585999765" title=" by Megan, on Flickr"><img alt=" " height="500" src="https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7005/13585999765_b62f30d1c1.jpg" width="375" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
And this super fun pull that I'm really stoked about. I pulled some of my Very Precious stash for this one! I'm going to cut into these tonight. :-)<br />
<br />

My friends, that is 11.5 inches of HST that need to be pressed and trimmed. And trimming HSTs are my least favorite quilting task ever. Which is sad, because I seem to make a lot of HST-based quilts...<br />
<br />
Here they are all pressed. May the trimming commence!!<br />
<br />

<br />
P.S. I have been getting lots of questions about the table! I got it from Beba's Boutique, which is a booth from the Mid-Atlantic Quilt Show. I've been looking at their tables for the last couple years, and finally decided to pull the trigger. I've been using it for a couple weeks and love it, and even pulled out the extension table and side slidey-thingy to quilt a baby quilt with a friend of mine a little bit ago. It was amazing - so much space!! And just to be clear, I am in no way affiliated with Beba's, they have no idea I even blog or anything.Meganhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05879022843770498767noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6579865805572494744.post-31751076704247724922014-03-17T16:30:00.000-04:002014-03-17T16:30:11.600-04:00Then all of her dreams came true...I got myself a present when I went to the <a href="http://talesofineptitude.blogspot.com/2014/03/sunday-stash-and-maqs-recap.html" target="_blank">Mid-Atlantic Quilt Show</a>... Remember when I brought <a href="http://talesofineptitude.blogspot.com/2012/11/me-and-marsha-sue.html" target="_blank">Bridget</a> home almost a year and a half ago? Since then I've wanted to get a drop-in table so I can quilt on a flat surface.<br />
<br />
I tried the Gidget table, and it was way too rickety when quilting, so I returned it. I also looked into Horn and Koala tables, and was disappointed with the quality for the price. So then I looked into building one from components from Ikea/Home Depot, and that would have worked, but wouldn't have a lift capability. I even looked into having one custom made by a carpenter friend.<br />
<br />
So when I was at MAQS a few weeks ago, I saw this...<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/talesofineptitude/13226717013/" title="Untitled by Tales of Ineptitude, on Flickr"><img alt="Untitled" height="480" src="http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3803/13226717013_4aabd6b936_z.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<br />
Isn't she pretty?! Solid wood, with a lift, and look at what she does!!!<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/talesofineptitude/13226892644/" title="Untitled by Tales of Ineptitude, on Flickr"><img alt="Untitled" height="484" src="http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3774/13226892644_76038d4acc_z.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<br />
There is also this little weird drawer thing on the right side, and when I saw it I had no idea what I would use it for, but look - all my little stuff that I need to have on hand when I'm working fit in there perfectly! And I don't have to have everything cluttering the top of the table!<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/talesofineptitude/13226911534/" title="Untitled by Tales of Ineptitude, on Flickr"><img alt="Untitled" height="640" src="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7359/13226911534_17e865eb71_z.jpg" width="480" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<br />
This is exactly what I wanted, with no extra bells and whistles, and I didn't have to pay extra for the flip up table in the back, or the pull out thingy on the left. Perfect! It was a little bit of an impulse buy, so I called my Dad to talk me out of it. Of course he said that since I've been looking for a table like this for a year and a half, I should get what I want. And since it is really good quality solid wood, he said that I could pass it down to my daughters one day. Way to make me tear up in public, Daddy, thanks.<br />
<br />
I would love to be playing with it, but I had some minor surgery on Friday and I've been on the couch since! Charlotte is doing a very good job of taking care of me, though - she's a good snuggler!<br />
<br />

<br />
It shows how neurotic I can be...<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<br />
It's amazing how satisfying this can be... Now they're all sorted and ready to be made into a gazillion HSTs!! This comes the hard part...<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/talesofineptitude/13121333395/" title="Untitled by Tales of Ineptitude, on Flickr"><img alt="Untitled" height="480" src="http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3833/13121333395_72899fa91c_z.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>

<br />
I just wasn't feeling it though. I like it, but I felt like I was "forcing" it, if you know what I mean? I thought for a long time what I wanted to do, but nothing was really clicking. So of course, feeling crunched for time (the baby was born in december) I just started with some fabric I liked, and a pattern that I have been wanting to do for a while.<br />
<br />
It's not pieced yet, but I intend to finish it. I might sell it, or give it to someone else. I haven't decided. Have any of you ever sold a quilt on etsy or something before? How did it go?<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/talesofineptitude/13103855534/" title="Untitled by Tales of Ineptitude, on Flickr"><img alt="Untitled" height="511" src="http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3800/13103855534_9b7e4c3043_z.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/talesofineptitude/13103609045/" title="Untitled by Tales of Ineptitude, on Flickr"><img alt="Untitled" height="480" src="http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3688/13103609045_6d3cb2908b_z.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
I really like what it turned into, but it just doesn't feel "right" for her. So that's what the pretty pile of repros from the other day are for - baby quilt take 2! I saw a quilt on pinterest or something and knew right away that it was perfect. Hopefully in the next week or so I can get it started! :-)Meganhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05879022843770498767noreply@blogger.com15tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6579865805572494744.post-10804621495948686692014-03-08T23:07:00.000-05:002014-03-08T23:08:00.240-05:00Sunday Stash and MAQS RecapI went to the Mid-Atlantic Quilt show last weekend, and believe it or not, I bought some fabric! lol<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/talesofineptitude/13024320825/" title="Untitled by Tales of Ineptitude, on Flickr"><img alt="Untitled" height="640" src="http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3433/13024320825_1cddea8966_z.jpg" width="480" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<br />
In addition to these super sweet repros, I also got some Lizzy and Tula, and a stencil set thing so I can improve my FMQ a little bit. I also got my first skeins of "fancy" yarn! (Aka not from Joann's/Michaels/AC Moore) I think these will become some really sweet Christmas-y socks!<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/talesofineptitude/13024314975/" title="Untitled by Tales of Ineptitude, on Flickr"><img alt="Untitled" height="640" src="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7410/13024314975_dcfee46c54_z.jpg" width="480" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<br />
I didn't actually take any photos of the actual show quilts, because I was distracted by another purchase, which is getting it's own post next week!<br />
<br />
In the meantime, I'll tease you with the promise of a new quilt in the next couple of weeks. I'm turning these 30's prints into a quilt for my BFF's new baby. Who will probably be walking by the time it's finished. But at least I am SO much more inspired with this than the quilt I was working on for her before!<br />

I was calling this mini 'Prozac' for a hot second, as a reflection of the therapeutic effects of quilting/sewing, but then I realized that 'Jagged Little Pill' was way more fitting, and goes along with my naming-quilts-after-songs thing. :-)<br />
<br />
I decided to do some lines radiating out from each of the segments, about 1/4" apart. It was tedious at first, but once I got in the groove it actually started to go pretty quickly. I can't imagine doing an entire quilt like this though!<br />
<br />

<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<br />
I machine bound it in the teal ombre, which was perfect for this! My machine binding skillz are improving, though I still prefer hand binding.<br />

A WIP? That's so exciting! Lol. It doesn't take much to excite me about sewing lately!<br />
<br />
Anywho, here is something I threw together the other night when I was in need of some instant gratification...<br />
<br />
I got a super cute mini charm pack from my LQS a little bit ago, and I decided to make one of Julie's Rock Candy quilt blocks, just teeny!<br />

I knew I had been busy and non-bloggish for a while, but I had no idea it had been this long!<br />
<br />
So what have I been up to? School, that's what. I'm taking pharmacology this semester, and it's kicking my butt! I'm also taking another class, but it's not too bad. I'm sooo ready for pharm to be over, though!<br />
<br />
Since I haven't had much time to sew, I bought some fabric...<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">

<br />
<br />
Yeah, my Christmas money was gone almost immediately lol!<br />
<br />
I've also been working on a new quilt, but I'm not loving it... We'll see how it turns out!<br />
<br />

<br />
But then we got about 3 inches of snow.<br />
<br />
And the power went out for a couple hours.<br />
<br />
Really??!<br />
<br />
<br />
It was pretty at first.<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/talesofineptitude/12097052456/" title="Untitled by Tales of Ineptitude, on Flickr"><img alt="Untitled" src="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7296/12097052456_f7f6ce4a38_z.jpg" height="640" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/talesofineptitude/12096391875/" title="Untitled by Tales of Ineptitude, on Flickr"><img alt="Untitled" src="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7382/12096391875_5c31b03949_z.jpg" height="480" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<br />
Then my house started to smell like Yankee Candle was burning down. And it was getting cold. Good thing I have lots of quilts hanging around! ;-)<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/talesofineptitude/12096401365/" title="Untitled by Tales of Ineptitude, on Flickr"><img alt="Untitled" src="http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3826/12096401365_1451a7f12b_z.jpg" height="640" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<br />
At least I got some candlelight knitting done! I'm loving these new socks... So stoked for my feet :-)<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/talesofineptitude/12097182076/" title="Untitled by Tales of Ineptitude, on Flickr"><img alt="Untitled" src="http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5511/12097182076_da937d405b_z.jpg" height="640" width="578" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<br />
By the way, I finished these socks forever ago. My first pair ever! It went much more smoothly than I thought, even if they're pretty lumpy. It can only get better from here, right? ;-)<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/talesofineptitude/12097162506/" title="Untitled by Tales of Ineptitude, on Flickr"><img alt="Untitled" src="http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2822/12097162506_c85a40d6e8_z.jpg" height="640" width="480" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<br />
Today, however, I had to study...<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/talesofineptitude/12096868454/" title="Untitled by Tales of Ineptitude, on Flickr"><img alt="Untitled" src="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7398/12096868454_e0b6f09ca7_z.jpg" height="640" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

<br />
P.S. I figured out what was going on with my flickr... apparently there is some bug going on that won't allow embedding on some photos - some were fine, and some wouldn't let me. I had to opt out of the beta flickr and go back to the old one (which is way better, IMHO) and then it was fine. Frustrating in the meantime, though...Meganhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05879022843770498767noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6579865805572494744.post-32037064237445877192014-01-15T14:30:00.001-05:002014-01-22T23:36:24.054-05:00Am I an idiot?Ok, peeps... what is going on with Flickr? I can't seem to imbed photos anymore. It's telling me to share photos publicly to get the embed code, but they are public already?!<br />
<br />
Is this a problem anyone else is having, or is it just me?<br />

Help!Meganhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05879022843770498767noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6579865805572494744.post-31170828007183247302014-01-03T23:51:00.000-05:002014-01-22T23:36:45.435-05:00Hello Again!Can I tell you that I'm downright embarrassed by how long it's been since I posted? I didn't realize it had been so long...<br />
<br />
But to be honest, there hasn't been much going on over here. Christmas happened, and with it a very minimal amount of gift-sewing. Knitting is happening, which to be honest, makes it very hard to get off the couch. It's just so very comfy...<br />
<br />
Also, there is the Christmas/New Year funk that happened (is still happening?). Holidays have been pretty rough since my Mom died, and this year we're without my grandmother too. It doesn't put one much in the mood to be creative. Or to do anything, really. I haven't even turned on my machine in about two weeks. It's just sad.<br />
<br />
BUT. I did manage to finish my <a href="http://talesofineptitude.blogspot.com/2013/12/re-learning-curve.html" target="_blank">Canberra cowl</a>, and have cast on another scarf and my first sock. First time knitting in the round AND first time using double pointed needles. I'll let you know how it goes!<br />

<br />
(Pardon my crappy iPhone pics. Santa did NOT bring me a real camera...)<br />
<br />
I'm going to be doing my WIP/Goals post here soon, so keep on the lookout for that.<br />
<br />
I don't think I'm going to do a wrap-up post for 2013. I was not a fan. It was <a href="http://talesofineptitude.blogspot.com/2013/01/good-riddance-2012.html" target="_blank">better than 2012</a>, but just barely. (Looking back on that post, it seems that the funk I'm in right now is exactly what happened last year. Even posting on the same day!)<br />
<br />
Here's to me getting my sewing mojo back!<br />
