I started this quilt late last week, and finished the top and basted it yesterday! I'm hoping to get it quilted today so it will be ready for gifting tomorrow. Wish me luck!
I actually cut the batting to size on the table, with the quilt and batting folded into quarters, instead of on the floor with them both spread out. SOOO much easier!!
I also basted on the table for the first time ever. There were a couple lumps that I had to get out, but I'll get the hand of it. So much more comfortable! I'm definitely doing this again, it's just not that often that I do quilts that are small enough!
So now this is what my design wall looks like. So much potential! I actually have something that I'd like to play with, but I'm so behind on both of my BOMs that I might try to be responsible for a hot second and catch up on those first.
Whipped up quickly, but so beautiful. I've done that "fold to quarters" thingy too with my Birmingham project. It seemed to be easier to square up nicely.
ReplyDeleteThat's a beautiful quilt! Love those dark background fabrics and the one star with the red background.
ReplyDeleteI also baste on the table most of the time. Very much nicer for the back and the knees. Here I wrote a blog post about my method: http://www.steffiscandyquilts.blogspot.de/2011/06/lot-of-basting.html
With the clips you can get the backing and batting straight and without puckers. ;-)

I've seen it done that way, but since I did it like that on a whim, I hadn't gotten any. Thanks for the link, I love that quilt in your header!
DeleteI absolutely love the navy background in this quilt, Megan! It really makes those stars stand out. Just gorgeous!

So fast! Nice job. I love the navy, too. I hope you get it quilted in time. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteSeriously, I wouldn't know what do to with myself if I started and finished so quickly! It's beautiful, I love it! :)
ReplyDeleteYou and me both Susan! I'm always amazed when folks turn out quilts from start to finish in five days ( or something ridiculously out of reach for me ) like that.
DeleteLove the colors here. This is going to look great. At this rate you are probably done as I am typing, lol.
ReplyDeleteLove the fabric combo
ReplyDeleteThe orange and the navy look fabulous together. I love it.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous quilt, gorgeous colours, just plain old gorgeous!

For your larger quilts, have you tried basting "on the wall"? Take down your design wall, hang up your layers and give it a whirl. I like this method ever better than a table!
ReplyDeleteAwesome quilt too. I've been wanting to make one of those wonky stars but I'm terrible picking out colors and values for scrappy mixed like that! Yours is great!
How's that quilt for your grandfather coming along (red/grey with airplanes)...I love that quilt! It's my favorite of yours!
I've thought about that, but my wall isn't big enough! The quilt for my grandfather is next up to be quilted - I was at an impasse about how to quilt the next section. Good memory!
DeleteThis is just gorgeous!! I love that one red/orange block with the white star!
ReplyDeleteI've yet to try basting on a table, but i have tried the wall basting for a small baby quilt, worked like a charm! Can't wait to see this one finished!
Wow! It pops! Its bold! It's fabulous!
ReplyDeleteoooh love that empty design wall. What a feeling!
ReplyDeleteOf course you know I love this quilt to pieces. I hope the quilting goes quickly so that it can continue to be a quick project! I love when they just move along like that, don't you?
Very jealous of your design wall! Loving the quilt too! Great texture.
