The WIP That Wasn't

I mentioned a while ago that I started making a quilt for my best friend's new baby...

I just wasn't feeling it though. I like it, but I felt like I was "forcing" it, if you know what I mean? I thought for a long time what I wanted to do, but nothing was really clicking. So of course, feeling crunched for time (the baby was born in december) I just started with some fabric I liked, and a pattern that I have been wanting to do for a while.

It's not pieced yet, but I intend to finish it. I might sell it, or give it to someone else. I haven't decided. Have any of you ever sold a quilt on etsy or something before? How did it go?

I really like what it turned into, but it just doesn't feel "right" for her. So that's what the pretty pile of repros from the other day are for - baby quilt take 2! I saw a quilt on pinterest or something and knew right away that it was perfect. Hopefully in the next week or so I can get it started! :-)

  1. Your blocks are really pretty, nice and fresh.
I've only ever sold a small persons quilt at a craft fair and the rest I've given away. But good luck if you sell yours.

  2. I like to make baby quilts as a way to practice new techniques - both for piecing blocks and quilting - and they don't always have predetermined homes. When the pile gets too large, I take a bunch to my local women's & children's hospital and lots of them get used in the neonatal intensive care unit. Just an idea if you get stumped and don't want to sell it!

  3. I really like and even though it's bright and colourful it feels older but still a really nice result!

  5. This turned out absolutely gorgeous! I totally understand that feeling of liking a quilt but not necessarily for the person you're making it for. I've learned that most people likely do not care and will love it just the same as the one you decided to make. They are just thrilled to receive something so well made with lots of love put into it.

  6. I was drawn to this beautiful quilt on the WIP linkup - such a beautiful color pallette. I understand about wanting to make the "right" quilt for the "right" baby- so just go with your gut and I am sure you will find a good use for this if you don't give it to your friend.

  7. I love it!!! Gorgeous colors and patterns. I've never sold on Etsy, I live in Argentina.

  8. Really like the design you are using. The square in a square adds something special to a traditional star block. Colors are great.

  9. I actually think these blocks are the perfect pairing of fabrics and pattern. It really is beautiful. I have an etsy shop, but I've never sold anything on it. I have sold quilts, but mostly through word of mouth, and friends of friends, and things like that (and I still give some away too). Good luck with finishing it up. I bet you'll love it when it's finished!

Thanks for linking to Needle and Thread Thursday!

  10. I think it look awesome! I know what you mean about 'not feeling it'. It's super hard to make it a finish once you get to that point. I just finished a stars quilt, which is something I thought I always wanted to do - turns out, I pretty much hated every step of it. ha! Live and learn. Good luck on the next option you picked out!

  11. I think those blocks are amazing and work quite well together! But I understand what you mean when a project doesn't "feel right" for the purpose you had in mind. I have no advice re: Etsy...sorry. I am sure you will find the right use for these blocks!

  13. I'm loving this!!! But, I can totally relate to that feeling of growing tired of a project and forcing my way through it. I'm doing that with a current project that I was really excited about, but isn't quite turning out the way I envisioned it in my mind. :/
