Here's more!

While I was on a roll doing my September blocks for Sisters Ten, I went ahead and did the October ones too!

Anne-Marie was nice enough to have the logo for the BOM printed at Spoonflower, and gave us a chance to buy one to put in one of these blocks. Such a good idea!!

So now ALL of the blocks for this BOM are done, and next we start putting it all together!

Playing catch-up!

Believe it or not, I'm still doing my two BOM's - Sisters Ten with GenX Quilters and Skill Builder with Pile O' Fabric. I just haven't been doing very will with keeping up with them lately. I'm only a couple months behind with Sisters Ten, but I haven't done the blocks for Skill Builder since summer.

Oops.

So I took the opportunity while the latest quilt was up on the design board being stared at (and occasional blocks being moved around) to catch up some.

Here are the September blocks for the Skill Builder BOM:

These are my favorite ones of this BOM! Followed by the lady of the lake blocks as a close second ;-) I might have to do a whole quilt of this block one day...

Sisters Ten BOM - August Blocks

Happy Labor Day to everyone in the US! I hope everyone had a great long weekend, and that it hasn't been too hard to get back into the swing of things...

I took the day off to do a little fun sewing, of course. I'm between "big" projects right now, having just finished From This Valley. So I took the opportunity to catch up on one of my BOMs. (I'm several months behind my Skill Builder BOM, so I might have to devote a whole weekend to catching up there!)

Here are the two blocks I made for August -

Sisters Ten BOM - July blocks

I did my Sisters Ten BOM the other night - finally! With summer vacation and whatnot I've gotten behind on my BOMs... Two months for the Skill Builder - oops!!

Anyway, here is what I came up with for this set...

Sisters Ten BOM - June blocks

These might be the quickest blocks I've ever done. Ever. It was so gratifying. The blocks in this BOM have all been pretty straight forward, but some have taken longer than others!

I put a little bit of blue into this block, to reference a fabric I used in January.

And I lovingly call this one my Virginia Tech block (my alma mater). Our colors are maroon and orange. Which are an acquired taste, I'll admit...

Sisters Ten BOM - May

I finished the May blocks of the Sisters Ten BOM the other day. These blocks came together quickly and uneventfully - which is nice, but makes for some moderately boring blog posts! ;-)

I used the same blue fireworks print that I did on one of the January blocks so that there would be a little bit of blue on more than one block, for some balance.

I used some scraps from my Honey Honey quilt in this block. This one is a much lighter value than some of the others, which I think will give the finished top some interest.

Here are all of the blocks I've done so far! It kind of reminds me of confetti at a party, lol. Once I put in some negative space in the middle it will tone down a little!

Sisters Ten BOM - April

I did the April blocks of the Sisters Ten BOM the other night. (Here are January, February, and March) I think this first block is my favorite one of the whole thing so far.

The second one I did with really scrappy outer hsts. I like this one a lot too, but the solids are just really striking I think. But hey, we know I love solids, right?

Here are all the blocks I've done so far. When I first started this I thought that the gray might be too dark, but seeing all these together I like the balance a lot. I'm looking forward to seeing where this is going!

Sometimes my blog REALLY earns its name...

I went to do the March blocks of the Sisters Ten BOM last night (you can catch up on January and February too, if you want!). Chaos ensued.

Seriously, it was a comedy of errors.

I cut out all my pieces. So far, so good.

Oh wait, I realized I had cut some of them for 9" blocks instead of 12" blocks. Dangit. Recut.

On to chain piecing HSTs. Nothing new here, I've done this a gazillion times.

But this time my 1/4" foot decided to eat some of my corners. The top layer of fabric was catching on part of the foot. Annoying, but I'll trim these guys up anyway, so no big deal.

Oh crap. I pieced all of the HSTs together WRONG sides together. Rookie mistake - this one actually pissed me off. I must really be on auto pilot!

Commence the ripping and re-piecing.

Oh wait, then I noticed I somehow pieced the selvedge of one print into a block. I have NO idea how I missed this one.

Laying out the block before final piecing - yeah, these colors are not quite right. Re-cutting AGAIN.

Much better. Now lets see if I can put these kids together without incident.

Apparently not. See that upper left corner? More ripping.

Sigh of relief. They're both done, and somehow I didn't tear my hair out or throw anything. Somehow.

Next time I promise I'll pay better attention. Maybe.

Sisters Ten BOM - February

I realized that I posted these Sisters Ten February blocks on Instagram and Flickr, but neglected to do a post. I did these a few days ago. After the January blocks, I was worried that the gray was too dark, but I'm really loving it now. It mellows out the neon tendencies of the orange and pink color scheme. I'm digging it. I'm also digging fussy cutting (obvs!).

Sisters' Ten #1

So the first quilt top of 2013 has officially commenced! I started the Sisters' Ten BOM from Gen X Quilters yesterday afternoon. I've never done a BOM before, and I think it's going to be way fun.

The first block went well, it just took me longer than I expected. I don't usually follow directions or patterns when I'm quilting, I usually just make it up as I go along, so that was a little different.

Picking out fabrics out of the stack.

Final pull, all crisp and freshly cut. I realized that I needed a large print for the center block, and I pulled the two I ended up using out of my stash. I think they worked out really well! I'm not sure how I'm going to feel about the blue background of this square once a few more are done; I wasn't planning on using any blue anywhere else in the quilt, and I think it might stick out like a sore thumb. We'll see, I guess!

Half square triangles.

Final product!!
