Forgotten Finish!

You might not even remember when I started this project... last summer!

I love hand work, and this was no exception. I remember distinctly working on this while my grandmother was in the hospital last year, just before she passed away. Maybe that's why I put it away for so long?

I even had a moment of ineptitude where I wasn't paying attention - don't try to hand piece and watch Scandal! At least it was an easy fix.

But anyway, I actually finished this several months ago, and neglected to share it with you. But here it is!

I quilted it with straight lines radiating out from the peach ring, with Aurifil 2600 (my go-to for everything!) The back is a simple pocket with navy Pearl Bracelets.

WIP-ness

Do you remember the EPP project I started at the beach? Well, I promise I've been working on it... I just had to set it aside for a moment out of frustration. If you follow me on Instagram, you might have seen this:

Hand piecing and seam rippers together do not a happy Meg make... I need to pay better attention next time!

BUT! The sad part is over, so now I'm back on the right track.

Here is what else I've been working on - I'm officially a grad student (again...) So my sewing might slow down a bit. Hopefully not too much, I've actually finished the Luxe in Bloom top, so I'll show that to you tomorrow!

More English Paper Piecing

I started the second May block of the Skill Builder BOM the other night. This one is also paper pieced, but it's very different from the first one! I've never done paper piecing with these shapes before, so that was fun. Except not really. But it was ok.

I started with this stack. The block is supposed to look like a gemstone when it's finished, so I wanted to get a bunch of different shades, so it would look like it was sparkling.

I printed the templates and cut them out, then decided how I was going to split up the colors.

Skill builder BOM April.... Progress

I've been kind of quiet about the Skill Builder BOM for April. That's because there isn't much going on. The blocks for this month are pieced by hand! I put off starting them forever, and finally got a move on the other day. I've done a very little bit of paper piecing in the past, and really like it. It's very meditative.

I cut the fabric and basted all these tinies one night while watching TV. It went really quick! I started piecing the rows too.

Of course, in the tradition of Ineptitude, I started piecing it wrong. This is what I started doing:

Seam ripping sucks to begin with, but ripping hand stitching sucks even worse!

This is what the block is supposed to look like! I'm really liking this! There is another block that I haven't started yet, so I'll share that one when it happens!

Happy Handwork

Thanks so much for all the feedback about my unhappy quilting. I'm really liking the idea of leaving those two blocks in there as is and using a matching thread for the background for the rest. Ryan Gosling agrees.

Ok, anyways... Last week I took a class at my LQS called Big Stitch quilting. I've seen so much of this stitching, but I've been doing traditional quilting for so many years that I was unsure of how to do stitches like this. I've had teeeny tiiiny quilting stitches ingrained into my head, so I knew I might need some guidance.

Please ignore the bright red basting stitches!

I'm still trying to decide what I'm going to do with my class sample, but I'm pretty sure it's going to be a wall hanging. Eventually. It is handwork, after all...
