Finished Quilt, and bad pictures...

I was waiting to show ya'll this quilt today, since it's friday, but I also waited until the last minute yesterday afternoon to get pictures. It was also too cold to trudge outside, so I basically just climbed out from under the quilt, tossed on the couch and floor to take pictures, and then climbed back under it, lol.

So here is what we're left with. I'm really going to have to take some better pictures when the weather is better and it doesn't look so cold and depressing outside.

I quilt this on my home machine (my love, a Bernina 750QE) with the walking foot and Aurifil 2600, the perfect gray. I did echoes around the stars, which gave it a radiating effect. I FMQ'd some echoing stars in the very middle, since it would have been way too much of a pain to turn that thing in the machine to use the walking foot.

I bound this quilt in the purple Acacia feather print, which is perfect for this. Really just perfect altogether, since I've already bought more... I hand stitched it using a variegated purple Aurifil thread (3840), which I adore, and it was perfect.

A little progress

I finished quilting Good Morning Starshine the other day, and now I'm on to my favorite part. :-)

Seriously, hand stitching binding is one of the most therapeutic and relaxing things ever. No lie.

Other than that, there's not much going on over here.

Happy Halloween!

I hope everyone had a safe and super fun Halloween! I actually had the evening off, so I was so stoked about handing out candy to the kids in the neighborhood. Last year I was working, and that was the first year I was in the house, so I didn't want to expect.

Yeah, not ONE trick or treater. Not a single one!

So I have some candy here, if you want some... A friend of mine and my roommate enjoyed some, though. :-)

Charlotte got dressed up to entertain the (nonexistent) kids, and may have held a little grudge after the fact. I don't think she was really having much fun...

After I gave up on the kids, and finished some homework, I worked on quilting for a little while.

I definitely didn't get anywhere close to finishing this for the Blogger's Quilt Festival, but that's ok. I'd rather take my time and enjoy the process than feel stressed and rushed to meet a self-imposed deadline. I've got enough stress from working full time and going to grad school to want any from quilting, which is supposed to be my happy place. So in the interest of keeping it my happy place, I'm not pushing myself too hard on this one. :-)

Good Morning Starshine

The Acacia quilt top is finished! This top took me longer than I expected, but it's done!

I'm calling this one Good Morning Starshine, which is a song from one of my fave movies ever, Hair. No, not Hairspray. Hair - with Treat Williams and all the hippies and whatnot. It's awesome. I actually wrote a thesis about it the last time I was in grad school...

(please ignore all the tiny bugs that jump on my quilts the second they hit the ground!)

I originally did the star part and one full echo, but then I decided it was too small, so I added on the "shadow" echoes to make it a little bigger, and then extended parts of the second echo to make it look like it was coming out of the quilt.

This picture I took while I was basting it shows the contrast of the grays a little better than the outside pictures:

So this is all basted and ready to go, but Bridget is actually not feeling well, so I'm going to have to take her to the doctor this afternoon. Over a weekend, of course :-/

WIP Wednesday, and a little finish

Hi guys! I've been trying to get in a little sewing here and there in between work and school (and a field trip!), and I've actually got a finished top to show you on Friday!

BUT, today is not that day, so you'll have to be appeased with a little peek of what I've been working on lately. I finished the Acacia top the other day, and I took a little time tuesday night to whip up the back and baste it. No telling when it's actually going to get finished though!

I needed a quick finish while I was working on this top, so the other night I tossed together this little zippy pouch. I got the pattern for this at my LQS, and it was soooo simple. It's quilt as you go, so you don't even have to do a separate lining. Easy = awesome.

I even did the zipper with the ends finished for the first time ever. Easier than I thought! I'm going to do pouches like this again, but the next one might be a little bigger, so it will be a little more versatile.

WIP Wednesday

I'm making some progress on my Acacia quilt! I've decided to piece it in quadrants, to make it a little easier, and I'm about halfway done.

I'm using my little row markers to keep everything straight.

I've also expanded my 9 patch piecing method - it's working out great!

I'll let you guys know when this top is done, I'm stoked about this being my "fall" couch quilt!

I had a couple days off work...

It's amazing what you can accomplish with a little "free" time.

In the midst of my fabric-buying frenzy, I stopped by my LQS and grabbed some Acacia charm packs! I also fell in LOVE with the new Kona Silver, which is now my favorite gray fabric of all time. I didn't know what to do with it all, but once I figured it out (inspired by these photos on flickr), I chopped the charms all up and threw them onto the design wall.

I thought this was going to be a pretty quick project, but as usual, it isn't content to remain the way I originally intended. So it's got to evolve some before I can finish piecing it. I'll keep you updated!

I Got to Sew!

I got to squeeze in about ten minutes of sewing in between two thirteen hour shifts yesterday. This is literally the first time I've turned on my machine since September 7th.

I didn't get much done, but that's ok.



It was awesome.

I got distracted again...

I was fully intending to work on my BOM blocks.

I promise.

But then I got distracted by this -

So stoked for this. I'll let you know what happens :-)
