Last month I bought a Hoosier cabinet base to convert into a pressing table. The store I got it from "forgot" to deliver it, though, so I only got it this week. It also came with a nice fresh scratch in the door, so I got a little discount to go with it.
I just used Elizabeth's tutorial to convert it - I got some plywood cut to size and wrapped it in batting and home dec fabric. It turned out great, and I've already used it! It's a great size, too! The top is much wider than an ironing board, so I can press fat quarters without moving them, and I can spray best press onto fabric without it getting everywhere. Score.
Oh--that quilt is just PERFECT above the new (envy, envy!) cabinet. Julierose
ReplyDeleteThanks! I'm trying to balance out the orange ;-)
DeleteI like your pressing table. Very much.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great find! :)
ReplyDeleteThis is SUCH a great idea! I'm good friends with the mother of the designer of the fabric you used. :)
ReplyDeleteReally?! I bought the veeeery last bit my shop had, and was so sad, because I wanted to cover my house with it!
DeleteI was so going to do this to an old buffet we got, hopefully it'll warm up soon so we can refurbish it first but I'm glad to find out batting works. I thought I needed some kind of special heat material. Yours turned out beautifully.
ReplyDeleteI used three layers of batting, and it's been working great! The top is really big, I can press a fat quarter with several inches to spare on all sides! It's such an upgrade :-)
Deleteyour pressing board cabnit (awesome!) and gadget wall (fabulou) make such an inviting and pretty sewing space. it's wonderful.
